Is this true about mouthwash being used to eliminate cat urine?

I just read on faq.org that mouthwash (didn%26#039;t say which brand or flavor) will remove the smell of cat urine on floors?





I%26#039;m having a bit of a problem with my cats. They keep peeing in the same spot every now and then on the living room carpet in a corner. Their litter is completely clean so I know it%26#039;s not an issue of them being disgusted from it, and I do have 2 little boxes. I used to use the Woolite Pet Stain %26amp; Odor remover spray. It worked ok but it didn%26#039;t deter them from soiling the same area as the bottle said. All I have left now is some litter deodorizer w/baking soda, and plain baking soda. I%26#039;m just wondering if I put some mouthwash in a spray bottle and spray it on the area...will this really work? Has anyone tried it?

cats hate the smell of original listerine. spray it in the spot that they are spraying and it should work. but you have to keep doing it every couple of days. also mothballs work....they hate the smell of them...put 4 or 5 in a old sock and tie it up, so that no one is poisoned. put it in the place where they go and it should stop it from happening...
Reply:I would give it a try..Only Listerine works I have heard from other cat message boards that it does work.
Reply:Clean it really good with Nature%26#039;s Miracle, it is non-toxic to pets/kids and gets out odors and stains. The enzymes eat up the urine.





Put tin foil over the area they are soiling. Cats don%26#039;t like tin foil.





Spray the area with cat repellant. Repellant and Nature%26#039;s Miracle are found at pet stores.
Reply:Yes, it works well. You use original Listerine (the yellow one) mixed half and half with water. Now I have used both Listerine and a generic yellow mouthwash, and they worked the same, so go with the lower priced one - but it has to be the %26quot;original%26quot; or regular kind. You have a bigger problem with your cats - they have marked their territory. You have to clean that area thoroughly, then make it somehow inaccessible to them, so they can%26#039;t get there.
Reply:Never heard of it..but... I am familiar with Kitty peeing in the floor no matter what kind of litter you use or how clean the box is..I was gave a beautifully Persian cat age 3 , the only problem was he only made pee in the hallway out side bathroom door where his litter box was. He pooped in the box but went in the hall to pee, not every day but often enough that it became a problem. I am pretty sure now that%26#039;s why they gave him to me but reasoning was because of a new baby in the family...hehehe Bottom line is I could not break him and got rid of him finally
Reply:I haven%26#039;t heard of the mouthwash thing before, but I%26#039;d say it%26#039;s worth a try. The reason they keep going there is because they can smell urine. You can use pretty much anything and everything on the spot, but cats can still pick up their scent. It sucks, I know! Have you tried Arm %26amp; Hammer pet deodorizer? I%26#039;ve had good luck with that. Otherwise try putting something over the spot so they can%26#039;t get to it to sniff it again.
