Guinea Pigs?

Hi, everyone. My younger brother just bought two male guinea pigs about a month ago. Very cute, but are in the habit of being pretty messy. He cleans the cage with fresh litter every few days as to keep the smell down, but one of the two seems to smell like feces and urine, as it is in the habit of wallowing in its waste after defecating. Any suggestions? Is there any type of deodorizer for guinea pig cages that is safe for the animal? Can they be bathed with a spray bottle? Please help, 10 pts. for best.

Guinea Pigs?
What kind of bedding do you use? Some are really bad at absorbing the smells.

The long term fix is to litter train them. This can be pretty easy if you stick to it. Here are some instructions http://en.allexperts.com/q/Guinea-Pigs-1...

DO not use deoderizer of any kind! Chemicals lik these can be very harmful for the guinea pigs!!! You do need to clean it off of him directly, however bathing isn%26#039;t ideal. Unless he%26#039;s really trusting of you, he will wiggle so much that hecould end up drowning. It%26#039;s safer to take a damp cloth and wipe him down, NO SOAP. Be sure to towel dry him off well, or he%26#039;ll get sick.
Reply:Um. Try bathing both of them. Put a inch of warm water in the tub. Then use baby shampoo. Instead of litter use sand. Because then the urine will become lumps and then you have to scoop it out every 2 days. I live in IL so it gets cold in the winter so in the winter i use bedding. But, then come summer i use sand. Hope this helps!!!
Reply:i have long haired guinea pigs, and they get really smelly! We use carefresh litter and that helps them to smell better. You can get guinea pig shampoo at pet stores, and put them in a little bit of warm water. They really hate getting wet though! Also if they have long fur it helps to clip it a little!
Reply:You can wash them off. A warm washcloth would probably be best unless you%26#039;d like to put them in the bathtub with luke warm water about an inch high or so. Mild cat shampoo can be used, but use very little. For my cages, I have special soft wood shavings that have baking soda or something like that to keep it smelling good. Good luck!
Reply:you know you have to clean out there sacks right?
