Bad Smell In Car?

I got this nasty smell in my 1999 Dodge Intrepid, and i thought it was from bringing the dogs in the car. It was like a week after the dogs were in the car. So i put a deodorizer in the car, and the car didn%26#039;t smell anymore...until now, about 1 month later it came back, and i never had the dogs in the car... It is really a nasty smell, what is it, and what can i do about it. I don%26#039;t know what its coming from, but I know its not the dogs.

Febreze makes an %26quot;auto%26quot; spray. It is fantastic. You%26#039;ll need to spray it every once in a while. Also, Renuzit makes this jar of pearls. You could just leave it in the floorboard (make sure not to knock it over). All three of them smell good, so pick the one you like! They last for about 4 weeks.
Reply:Shocked when I saw your question. I have a 2000 Intrepid, and it reeks lately! I can%26#039;t figure it out either. I tried Febreeze, and Lysol and stuff like that and it keeps coming back. The car is killing me, seems like it%26#039;s always something with it!!!

Reply:I had a horrible smell too in my car and I found out my antifreeze was leaking and somehow the smell was getting into my car. Check your antifreeze and see if its low.

Reply:it could be debris that got caught up in the heater box and rotted ,and when you use the heater it will make it worse,if that%26#039;s the case you,ll have to clean the heater box assembly out on it,good luck,that%26#039;s not a fun job to do.
Reply:use pet stain and Oder remover makes sure you look in all cracks and crevices maybe dogs brought a chew toy (food) or something and drooped it might have rolled under a seat or something but if it is biological the stain and order remover should kill the bacteria making the smell. You can get the remover in the pet department of your local walmart or something like that
Reply:Could it possible be coming in through the vents??? It could be a piece of flesh from a dead animal that may have gotten trapped in the motor or something.

Reply:Well i%26#039;d be interested in what the smell smells like, different smells could be an indication of problems under the hood. For example the electrical system and battery will give off a smell thats very similar to rotten egg if the alternator is over charging the battery or something. The smell could then enter the cars cabin via the air vents etc. I%26#039;d look for animals that may have also became trapped within the engine area which are now decaying and letting off fowl smells. Give the car a good clean out inside and if the smells still there seek advice from a service centre to ensure all is well mechanically. Good luck hope you find the cause of the smell. Cheers
Reply:put boxes of baking soda under your car seats you probably have water coming in from somewhere.
Reply:Look for dead mouse in air cleaner, under area where wiper motor is (covered by a plastic cover), in the HVAC box, or in the trunk. Also, a source of a musty smell is water leaking into the trunk if the gutter around the trunk isn%26#039;t clear.
