Can I use baking soda?

Okay I live with my parents and they both smoke.I don%26#039;t smoke but my room really does smell like an ashtray.I was just wondering can I use baking soda on my carpet.I mean sprinkle some on and vacum it up?I plan on going shopping this weekend and I%26#039;m gonna get some carpet deodorizer but will it work for now? Thanks to all that answer my question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I use baking soda?
Yes use it.Baking soda will not hurt your carpet. I have the same trouble with my wife. She smokes and I don%26#039;t. She lays her stinking cigarettes near the towels in the bath or near my clothes and I can smell them forever.

You can also use a small amount of bleach in water (not on carpet) to clean other areas which have been exposed to smoke.
Reply:Yes it will work for now. You can also put a piece of bread in a bowl and pour vinegar on it. Vinegar is known to absorb smoke odor.
Reply:The baking soda will not help. Try this instead

1 cup vinegar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon allspice

Combine all ingredients in a microwave-safe dish and heat until almost boiling. Set out in the room, and soon the room will be odor-free. This will reduce both food and cigarette smoke odors.
Reply:VINEGAR set a couple small bowls of it around the room it will soak up oder
Reply:It won%26#039;t hurt
Reply:Buy about a half dozen carbon odor absorbers called Fridge IT and just hang or place around your room. The activated carbon will absorb all the odors and you don%26#039;t have to spray anything or worry about fragrances.

Also, I recommend you put a couple in the car as well. It will take care of all the smoke smells inside the car.

Buy these at Walmart and Linens and things.
Reply:Baking soda will help at least. It%26#039;s good for a lot of odors. Also, try a small open container of vinegar.

Good luck!
Reply:Yes you can.
Reply:Baking soda is what carpet deodorizer is, with some smelly stuff added. That%26#039;s why Arm and Hammer makes it.
Reply:Move out.
Reply:baking soda works even better than deodorizer. The deodorizer just has smelly stuff to cover up the smell, where the soda actually sort of kills the smell
Reply:Baking Soda works, what also works really well is coffee grounds. Seriously we got a used car that smelled really badly inside and we bought a cheap canister of coffee put it on the carpet and left it for a couple hours and vaccuumed it up and it takes out all kinds of nasty odors.
Reply:Yes you can. When my allergies bother me I just use baking soda instead of carpet deodorizer. It still works.
Reply:If it doesn%26#039;t try some viniger in a little bowl and place in your room.
Reply:yeah you can use that for right now but it would be best if you leave it open in the room, especially the kind you use in the fridge.
